The Women’s Ministry of Pentecost International Worship Centre, Sakumono (PIWC-Sakumono) in Teshie Nungua Area of The Church of Pentecost has organized a food bazaar among the six subgroups that make up the ministry to foster love, fellowship and a sense of belonging among members.

The event, which was the second of its kind to be organised by the ministry, took place at the forecourt of the Church’s premise on Saturday, August 4, 2018.

According to the Women’s Leader, Deaconess Joyce Owiredu Okyere, the objective for this year’s food bazaar, among others, was for members to know and learn how to prepare some of the local Ghanaian dishes popularly consumed in the country.

The six groups that make up the ministry in the district are Blessed Ladies, Women of Substance, Precious Jewels, Victorious Ladies, Virtuous Ladies and Vessels of Honor. Each of the group prepared a local dish and a local drink.

Blessed Ladies were tasked to prepare all types of “Ampesi” ranging from Plantain, Cocoyam, Yam and Cassava with Nkontomire Stew, Garden Egg Stew and Sobolo drink. Precious Jewels prepared “Kokonte” and Groundnut Soup, Beans Stew and Fried Plantain,” “Kelewele”, Aprapransa, Pancakes and Millet drink. Virtuous Ladies were tasked to prepare all corn dishes ranging from Banku, Ga Kenkey, Fante Kenkey, Tilapia and Lamuji drink.

The rest of the group, Victorious Ladies prepared Fufu and Ebunebun Soup, Omo Tuo, Palmnut Soup and Orange drink. Women of Substance prepared Plantain Eto, Cocoyam Mpotompoto, Light Soup and Asaana drink while Vessels of Honor prepared Jollof Rice, Waakye, Fried Rice, Spaghetti, Salad and Pineapple drink.

Some of the members and the men who had taken the opportunity of the food bazaar to organize a football match that morning could not help but treat themselves to the various dishes.

A delegation from Teshie Nungua Area Women’s Ministry acted as judges. They commended the ministry for the initiative and commended the various groups for the efforts, cooperation, enthusiasm and participation.

Gifts were distributed to all participants from the leadership of the Ministry as all of them were declared winners. The groups funded the bazaar from their own contributions.

As Kurt Vonnegut once said “You cannot just eat good food. You have got to talk about it too. And you have got to talk about it to somebody who understands that kind of food”.
